Minglanilla is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 77,268 people in 14,739 households.

Minglanilla is part of a metropolitan area known as Metro Cebu.

History

The municipality of Minglanilla was once a part of its adjacent town, Naga. According to the church records, the municipality was founded in 1858 by Fr. Fernando Sanchez, first parish priest. The place was formerly called ‘buat’, A local word for ‘BULAD’ or dried fish. Fr. Sanchez later changed the name to Minglanilla, taken from his obscure place in Spain.

Minglanilla is located approximately 15 km south of Cebu City. It is bounded on the southwest by Naga City, Cebu; on the northwest by Toledo City; on the northeast by Talisay City; and on the southeast by the Bohol Strait. It has a land area of approximately 15.6 km².

The municipality falls under the third type of climate or rainfall condition. It is characterized by a short dry season lasting from one to six months. There's no pronounced maximum rain period. This town is placed under the tropical rainforest type of world climate which has a uniform high temperature and heavy precipitation distribution throughout the year as noted by PAG-ASA representative Mr. Uzziel.

Sugat Kabanhawan Festival – Minglanilla, Cebu, Philippines

The Sugat religious festival in Minglanilla is one of the biggest events for the town and Minglanilla is known to be the Capital of the south of the Sugat festival throughout the Philippines. Its an annual festival and its on today! I went this morning to grab a couple of photos and will head back around 1pm when the street dancing starts. Already this morning there has been some activities involving the gay community dancing and water buffalo race ( Carabao). The event started around 8am this morning and likely to be ongoing until 7pm tonight so if your in Cebu and looking for something to do the event is running all day. Might see you there. There is different activities running throughout the day some a bit bizarre such as gay mud volleyball. But its the Philippines always something different going on to keep people entertained.

Minglanilla is politically subdivided into 19 barangays.
