HE RULES

A Critical Essay on President Aquino’s SONA

People shouted happily when Gloria Macapagal Arroyo stepped out in MalacaƱang Palace after Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III won the presidency in the May 10 elections. Many people attended the proclamation of the newly elected president in the Quirino Grandstand Quezon City, Manila. Almost all people nationwide were amazed in his speech with regards to the country’s major and minor problems.

People had already reacted P-Noy before he was elected in May 10, 2010. They believed that P-Noy’s administration will give them a better living in 6 years sitting in MalacaƱang. They fight for the increase of wages and more jobs the country. We already shouted our needs and wants to the new administration by protesting.

As P-Noy delivered his first speech in State of the Nation Address (SONA), people gained knowledge about the litany of problems, primarily corruption and the depletion of funds, left by Arroyo. We were greatly affected by Arroyo’s administration because she didn’t hold responsibilities to take care the nation’s welfare. For that, so many reactions between us excelled.

The State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Aquino pointed out the problems of the former administration in which he corrected and opened the eyes of some government leaders to walk in the right path towards progress.

He made promises to solve the corruption in our country, the changes in government and the creation of private and public partnerships which gives us hope to uplift our economy and our country.

His speech made us brave to fight the things that we want to assert and made us strong to stop the things that had happened to us lately in Arroyo’s reign. We already knew what is wrong but the fact is we ignored it.

According to Sun Star Cebu, President Benigno Aquino III’s appeal for local governments to streamline processes, like the issuance of business permits, gained approval of Cebu’s business and government circles. Filipino-Cebuano Business Club Inc. (FCBI) President Rey Calooy, in a text message said a streamlined process will help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) cut the costs of doing business. “The simpler the processes, the more new investments will come” Mandaue of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Eric Mendoza said.

P-Noy made some future plans for the countrymen like increasing the ten years of education for students to twelve years of education due to the country’s problem in educational roots (handling computers and English speaking). The most important is the negotiation between the country’s government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for peace.

The nation hopes P-Noy to take a stand in his first speech in SONA.
